Developing a 'feature element' for this Georgian home.

The design brief was very clear from the start with this project - the aim was to create a stand out living space for the Master suite. It was important to keep the design complementing the Georgian features of this property, whilst creating something that makes the most of the space available, and that will stand the tests of time.

There were a number of obstacles to overcome to ensure everything was done to the best standards. The bedroom and bathroom were two completely separate rooms - installing the sliding doors between the two required a flitch beam installing as the wall was a load bearing partition. The shower "wet-room" that was desired needed a carefully planned drainage solution, so not to break up the herringbone pattern of the tiles. And lastly, laser-cut metal plates were installed between the flooring joists, after it was discovered that the previous drainage system was drilled through them, thus weakening the strength of the joists.

It was important to our client that the space available was used as best it could - incorporating the best storage solutions possible. We installed double-depth units to allow for the storage of excess items; maximising the storage whilst keeping a clean line on the exterior.

Here are some of the main features of the bedroom and en-suite created:

  • Traditional free-standing roll top bath.
  • Wet-room shower with herringbone tiling.
  • "Turnstyle Designs" Leather hand stitched handles.
  • 2700k LED door switch operated track with diffusers integrated into the units (additional lighting in the double depth units).
  • Modified Shaker type door front on the units with thin rebate to give a "light" look and keep the overall effect from being too heavy.
  • External finished PU Enamel paint in eqv. Farrow and Ball shade.
  • Internal finishes of units in lacquered veneered walnut.
  • As special shelving was fitted to allow for neat storage - a small ladder was installed to access the upper reaches of the units.
  • A Phillips steam iron unit was installed with a pop out hanging point to allow for clothes to be hung and the wrinkles steamed away prior to wearing or packing.
  • Complete lighting design including mood / low level marker lights / chandler and concealed downlighters.
  • Custom Corian floating vanity unit with matched interior and exterior colouring.
  • Hans Grohe Axor Montreux hardware throughout bathroom as this covered the traditional / modern fusion which was in keeping with the design intent.

We completed all the elements of this project including the electrical works and plumbing - offering a complete and 'one contact' solution for our client.
